Hello Luigi and all,

I have some music in RWS (Renderware? ADPCM?) format in a game which I would like to extract. None of the usual tools work, EKSZbox works 'somewhat' - it creates WAV files that play for a second or two (in MPC/CCCP and sndrec32, not in Winamp and such). xpadpdec doesn't work with these files, it only extracts noise. I''ve noticed they're tagged 0x0065. I've uploaded a sample here: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/21333150/STRA0.RWS

I'd be grateful for any help ripping those tunes.

Too bad... thank you, aluigi.

I assume there isn't any known tool out there that can extract/decrypt/convert those?

after a quick search I have seen the following tool that allows to dump the sections of the RWS files but I guess it's not what you want:
http://www.steve-m.com/downloads/tools/rwanalyze/

so the dumped section is practically the raw data and for the conversion you should guess the codec and build an header for trying to convert it with the specific tools... not a so quick job

Thank you. Yes, that tool just showed me the nested container structure. I guesstimated the header to be 2048 bytes on my own, which wasn't too far off. Ah well, seems I have to unpack the old Virtual Audio Cable and loop the sound back in realtime...
