We game on private network on board a navy Destroyer with no internet access.

I use bf2statistics to run my own stats server, now just need login server.

I tried to use gs login server to make online accounts, but it says that the username/password is allready in use, even though I used "pass" like the txt says.

Any help would be great.

For using gs_login_server with bf2, make sure you do the following:

- Add a line in your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file like so: 127.0.0.1 gpcm.gamespy.com
- Run gs_login_server within command line like so: gs_login_server.exe -p pass -v 29900

-v will give you verbose output to help you see what's going on, not needed but interested/helpful in some cases. -p sets the password to "pass" or whatever you wish. I do not specify a user... so that I can pick whatever name I wish when logging in.

Then when you open BF2, choose to "add an account that already exists" or something similar (I cant remember the exact wording). Then use whatever name you want, and the password "pass", and login. It should take a moment, but then you will pass the authentication screen and be able create or join a LAN server (not dedicated, obviously).

For all clients to authenticate to your gs_login_server, you will need to make sure port 29900 isn't blocked by any firewalls on yours/their computer so they can communicate with your fake login server. Then just change their hosts file to your computer's local ip instead of 127.0.0.1. And when their BF2 client attempts to authenticate, it goes to your fake login and works fine... assuming they use "pass" as their password when logging in. Or you can just setup a fake login on all the computers... but just editing the hosts file and setting up the gs_login_server on 1 computer seems to be the easiest solution.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Are you referring to the "Retrieve Account" tab vs. the "Create Account" tab?

Using this offers 2 options: to retrieve by nickname, or by email. Trying by e-mail produces "password incorrect"

Trying to retrieve by nickname crashes BF2.

If I try to create a NEW account, am told that nickname / password are in use.

Thanks for trying to help me, I know this probably isn't important to anyone else but it gets very boring out to sea!

I use the retrieve account tab (manage accounts > retrieve account tab) and I do it by nickname.

But I just did a little testing without an internet connection to try and emulate your situation. It logged in fine with a gs_login_server command line open on port 29900... but it froze right after logging in. To fix this, I also opened up an additional gs_login_server on port 29901, and made the changes accordingly in my hosts file, and then it logged in just fine with no freezes.

So try having 2 command line sessions open for 29900 and 29901:
- gs_login_server.exe -v -p pass 29900
- gs_login_server.exe -v -p pass 29901

And make the 3 changes to the hosts file that luigi mentions in the gs_login_server.txt file just to be safe (though the 3rd one might not be needed):
127.0.0.1 gpcm.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 gpsp.gamespy.com
127.0.0.1 gamestats.gamespy.com

And see what happens then. Also, are you getting a crash with an error message, or is it freezing like mine was?

My settings now match yours. I may have found the cause. I have additional setting in my hosts file.

192.168.2.2 BF2web.gamespy.com

This points to my server which is hosting a duped BF2 statistics server (awards, unlocks and so on). If I comment this line out with #, I can login with retrieve username like you told me. So I assume the crash is caused by the combination of duped stats server and duped login server.

Has anyone used the bfstatistics system with gs login emulator? Maybe I'm first person to try totally offline server with ranks and unlocks?

Where can you get this stats server emulator? I could try playing around with it.

It has worked. A VBscript that hides the hostfile from the bf2 executible allowed me to login to my server with "online" account.

All this from bf2statistics.com

Thank you!
