uhmmm I know nothing about the source sdk and faceposer (I have searched about it just after having read your post) but if the problem is a vista incompatibility maybe there are work-arounds that can be adopted to bypass it (probably is not possible but trying doesn't cost anything), so what is the exact problem? what exact function doesn't work?

sounds like a common vista problem to me.
..and i just like to keep saying "ppl stop using that piece of crap called vista". its BIG, slow, doesn't support many tools..etc

however it may not be vista problem, do you use any kind of antivirus or firewalls ?
Example: i have custom XP with zonealarm security suite and it causes skype setup to lag for like 10 minutes. first i tought it crashed, but i left it on and it started the setup. so i had to turn off the zonealarm to run setup (it only occured with old skype setup, new one works perfectly).

I run primarily on Vista 64 bit, and when I have compatibility problems I try to run the executable in compatibility mode. If you can locate the executable that is loaded, right click it, choose properties, goto the compatibility tab and check "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose your operating system that you prefer (probably xp sp2).

If this doesn't work, you can also try right clicking it and "run as administrator". This also seems to work on some applications.

If neither of those work, I'm not too sure.

nod32 is good indeed, but it does have the "on access scan" which could be the cause for such problems.
I would disable ALL firewalls and anti-virus (that goes for anti-spy..etc stuff too) programs and then try to run it. Also do alt+ctrl+del and make SURE that none of them is still running as service, also make sure that faceposer didn't left something to run.

Just a simple thing you can do to make sure it is not caused by some other programs.
NOTE - skypesetup was not only program i had problems with, zonealarm has messed up few other installers too.
*It is caused by either the program control or the "on access scan" feature, which will scan the whole file when its executed/accessed. I guess it freezes (lags for ages) when program is complicated or something...i think Luigi can explain it better, WHY exactly it does this.
*also ive heard that "system restore" causes some programs to freeze (lag out) too.
