Hi!
First of all i would thank you on the behalf of the AvP2 community for some of your PoCs and Advises: The game did really benefit from them (once we relied on free modders and not on Sierra anymore at least ><) and once again you might be the one who could help us. Early this morning the news struck the community that on November 1 Sierra will shut down the patch and master servers for avp2. As there are still players arround we are now aiming at different approaches on 'surviving' this problem - some want to write petitions, other want to beg and i follow the route to this page. Ages back, when i was modding avp2 i remember - or believe to remember - that you had some sort of Master Server Emulator on your website which i couldnt find now again. If so.. do you still have it and do you think it is stable enough to list about 100 games? If i was wrong about it and you dont have one, do you know a place to start for obtaining info on writing one?
Thanks in Advance Nachtwind

uhmmm seems that Sierra has no more money to keep one server online... mah, there are at least 3 games in that list which still have online servers so I hope that Sierra has "serious" reasons to kill them.
The master server about you refer was an old experimental project I called msreborn but has never had support for avp2 or for the other Sierra games which will be shut down the 1st november.
If you want info about the protocol, the only thing you can do is sniffing the retrieving of the server list and the heartbeat sent by the server.
For example in NOLF2 demo I see that the client makes one connection to check if there are new patches, one to validate the version, one to the http server to get the motd (not useful) and finally the one to get the list of servers where it receives a reply with directly all the data of each server.
Anyway I can't help in the project because I don't have a working and complete master server code (with working and complete I mean something serious naturally and not an example or a work-around code).

Alright, thank you for that starting point :0)
We will have to see what we can do about it - or simply leave the game and let it rest in peace :0(
