Mouse problems in XP

it sounds like really noobish problem, but its annoying me and i can't get it to work.
Well first i wanted to plug my mouse into front panel USB, because wire was too short from the PS/2 port (with usb converter).
Well i put my mouse into front panel USB, but it had no effect at all, mouse didn't work at all. the LED lights lighted up, but that was all. i rebooted and hoped it will fix the problem, but windows simply did not read the mouse inputs. I couldn't bother with it more and used it as it is.

Now i got a secondary mouse (wireless / unplugged) and tought i will use it as remote control when im watching movies (its good to switch movies..etc from distance).
SAME PROBLEM ! i plug it into ANY USB port and XP simply doesn't reconize the mouse inputs.
Its some kind of SilverCrest (Anubis) mouse and it has more buttons on it, than just mouse controls.
wierdly those buttons work FINE.
*TAB - when i hold it down, it chooses between open windowses
*left and right buttons, which should browse the pages
*close all
*open my computer
Now those buttons work just fine when i press them, but anything related to mouse doesn't work. those would be:
*movement
*left and right clicks
*wheel + wheel button

I did lot of research on how to use 2 mice at once and found something called TeamPlayer, which allows multiple mice on 1 pc. not just mice, but multiple cursors. That didnt detect my secondary mouse inputs either.
Finally i found out that windows XP should detect multiple input devices on default, like keyboards and mice. so if you have 1 or more mouse/mice , it takes it as one and same with keyboards, but mine does not detect secondary mouse movements, or should i say mouse movements from USB (as mentioned before, even my primary mouse doesnt work in USB ports)
so it detects the mouse as hardware, but mouse related controls doesnt work.
right now i have no ideas what could be wrong..

yeah i figured that if nobody replys, then it means nobody knows. however i did found one article that seems to be related to my problem:

this is exactly what it seems to be for me, because mouse related doesnt work, BUT i do have latest SP. i have XP with SP3 (installed it only because i wanted to try GTA 4 blah).

Luigi..maybe you at least know how to reset the USB settings..or the mouse settings. it seems like when mouse is setup by windows once, then it detects it only in that port on some dumb reason. so if i would tell my pc that i havent plugged mouse in, then it should work.

EDIT
i also found some site which says that default XP does not see the USB sockets (whtever that means, because you can use USB ports when you have default xp)

resetting the usb settings?!
if it can be of any help take a look to usbdeview although I think it's totally useless in your case http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html but at least you can play with it for some minutes :)

well more like i meant, reset the mouse or whtever it is. thats what annoys me, i don't know what it is exactly. It makes sense what was on that site, it said that it won't happen if you plug in the mouse FIRST time. so it has to be some windows settings or register that will register the mouse in the PS/2 port. so when i plug mouse into USB port it doesnt work...if i could reset the PS/2 port or the input settings. I don't think that USB would actually do, because windows already knows that mouse is in PS/2 port..so i have to reset it somehow. and i have absolutely no idea how or where windows keeps such data :|

UPDATE

I did few more tests and now im certain that it is windows xp problem, to be more specific it is caused by those port settings as i said before. I tested backtrack3 live cd and both mice worked just fine. I also unplugged my pc for whole night and booted it up while i changed my mice (my primary into USB and that wireless into ps/2) and XP didn't detect neither of them. Not even under device manager or control panel.
bah Luigi i can't belive that you dunno how to reset mouse or ps/2 port settings, i think its the mouse settings, because otherwise it would work in normal USB. XP have already installed mouse and won't 'release' it :S

when you talk about ps2 mouse and windows the only thing which comes in my mind was that little tool for Windows 9x which increased the speed of the ps2 port on this OS and which was made by the same developers of ASE... ah old times :)

umm no no, it is not the ps2 port's fault, it is windows settings. It only reads "my" mouse. even if i plug other mouse into ps/2 port it doesn't work there and 'my' mouse doesn't work in USB either. So windows just reads one specific mouse that was plugged in for first time .. grrr. so only way is to reset those settings..or maybe i should uninstall my mouse drivers ?
