Why do you have ads? It said that your forum host promised no ads... why do you have them now?

damned freeforums...
luckily I have never had problems with banners (I talk about any website) because I don't use javascript and external images in my browser.
Anyway freeforums offers free space, forum and database so in my opinion this is an acceptable price for this service.

most ads i see on any website use my Adobe thing, how do i disable adobe in mozilla firefox? i saw how to disable javascript but not adobe only stuff
i use the add-on Adblock Plus for firefox, it doesn't do too good of a job but it does stop a few
Edit: wait i think i've got it! all you have to add to the "Adblock Plus" blocking ads list is 5 things,
pagead2.googlesyndication.com
ad.doubleclick.net
2mdn
http://ad.
http://ads. (make sure u have the . after ads. and ad.)
i was browsing through the list and i found that basically every single one of the ads i blocked had a url like that in it... and i did 1 more setting which is uncheck "Show tabs on Flash and Java" so now there are no tabs for those...
now i have like no ads on any webpage !!! awesome hehehe
it still loads .gif ads but thats fine because most ads are gone except for those :D

ads...annoying indeed, but i wouldnt bother blocking them, because sometimes important things (not ads) gets blocked. like download pop-ups ..etc. im just using ''stealther'' on firefox which prevents anything coming into my pc.
btw i havent notice this ad before...i think they added it recently.

stealther just deletes everything, it doesnt save anything...
if ur using firefox download adblocker plus, just add those 5 thing and its great... i haven't noticed anything being "left out" since i did that (today)... ad blocker plus just blocks ads not prevents pop ups... so u can still get download pop ups... i love having no ads :D... ive never had a problem with pop ups...
i like to have my stuff saved so i dont really have to remember passwords and its a shorter time to reload...
it wasnt the fact that i was afraid of my internet browsing putting stuff on my computer, 'cause i would just remove it if it was a problem... it was just the fact that its so annoying to see "Bonk the rubber ducky and win a free PS3!!!" which is false advertising because they wont actually send u a free ps3 ^_^... and they make it sooooooo easy to hit the ducky so u know its fake
security i have installed are:
Ad-Aware 2007 (Free)
Spybot Search & Destroy (Free)
AVG Anti-Spyware (Free)
AVG Anti-Rootkit (Free)
Windows Live OneCare (Free) (won a full year so might as well use it... before i had Norton internet security 2007 trial... after onecare i'll use ZoneAlarm firewall & avg antivirus free edition)
freebies are better than nothing :D
i used to torrent stuff so i could get full protection, but i stopped doing that because freebies are just as good, and legal

mm yeah i know what stealther does...actually it wont allow those things...cookies, saves..etc, depends wht u specify there (not delete)
ads dont bother or lag me .. so im good with it. ill just set exepctions in cookies if i wanna login somewhere. like hotmail, my own forum, this forum..etc. places i visit often. so stealther is on most of the time.

but uh i guess stealther is good if u didn't want like "tracking cookies" and stuff... (or ANY cookies, heh)

no lol im not changing my mind :) ..ads suck, i know, but it dont bother me if i browse forum. ofcourse it would bother me if it would be on my site lol..but mine is not freeforum :)
stealther dont block ads, but it doest block other things:
- Browsing History (also in Address bar)
- Cookies
- Downloaded Files History
- Disk Cache
- Saved Form Information
- Sending of ReferrerHeader
- Recently Closed Tabs list
and i mean it blocks them complitely. its like browsing with browser that dont allow cookies or something like that. It disables the function for firefox.
I havent done research on it, but im pretty sure that it wont get in computer at all. ..i could check it with packet editor ofcourse :)

what forum host do u use? (link me to ur forum? :D)
i'd rather have my pc download all that cache stuff, it's just easier... but i hate advertising ANYWHERE ... i hate bilboards, commercials (except some are good because u actually need to get up and like use the bathroom but they should be less frequent).... internet ads, internet pop ups, email spam, junk mail (in real life)... i just hate random stupid crap like that!! ARGH

For checking your mozilla plugins use about:plugins (put it in the browser's bar).
The plugins are usually located in the plugins folder of firefox or in the folders of the programs which installed them.
The "perfect system" should have only "Mozilla Default Plug-in" or just nothing in about:plugins or only the specific plugins which you really want to use
For avoiding the loading of images from external websites go on about:config, search permissions.default.image and set it to 3, this modification makes the navigation faster and only in some rare cases is needed to reset it to 1 (for example lately youtube has changed the server where are hosted the videos screenshots)
You can block almost ANY adv website using the hosts entries (your hosts file is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts or /etc/hosts) located on some specific websites like http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/

uhm ?! .. all my links r in my profile. well site and theres 2 forums on site (main and other) ..and no im not using any free hosting .. i said i USED to use .. but its not free hosting anymore.
luigi:
naah .. i dont want to block any images at all. It would be great if something takes away only ads, but when you set ad blocker to ''ad'' ..etc then it also blocks some images and its confusing. took me like hour to figure out one site lol .. then i realized that the image (with link in it) was blocked by the ad blocker so since that im not using any blockers.
It was the download code you had to enter and ad blocker blocked it...

one question ... how many false positives it gives ?
what i mean is .. does it block the images you would like to see ?
like i mentioned before: verification images, downloads...etc
it does look good...but is it worth it. thats what im trying to figure out, because i really like to see everything else (besides REAL spam).
some forums/sites also has login buttons as images...or some other buttons as images which may get blocked because they contain something like it.
its not big chance that something importan gets blocked...but when it does .. it may be VERY annoying.

The ads servers are used only for one thing: advertisements
Blocking them will only give you more speed and less annoying stuff

LOL, what the hell kind of ad blocker did u have before? apparently u've had a bad expeirence with ad blockers and images... this has been blocking everything annoying, 80% of it which i LOVE :P aluigi wrote: The ads servers are used only for one thing: advertisements Blocking them will only give you more speed and less annoying stuff yeah! i agree xD
Sethioz, just try it... if u dont like it just get rid of it... :P it wont remove anything important unless u tell it to
if u are willing to use adblock plus for firefox, use all those i have on my list :D really great

i used to use zonealarm's privacy settings..its really great, but it lags browser very badly..

ive never used IE lmao .. if you want quick end to ur OS (windows) then use IE and look how ur OS will fuck up lol.
i dont even have IE in my custom win xp. i still need avant browser to get on some sites, because firefox is too anonymous for some sites lol. like it removes the private header .. or something like it.
about zonealarm, actually i dont need firewall, i just need program control, because i dont like programs mess around in my win...like connecting to net and then LAGGGGGGG .. most programs just pop up and fuck up ur work or something. so i just block all of that.
AAARGH ... luigi ur forum is kind a ... restricted. no avatars, no sigs .. and argh i cant add image as attachment (in other forums it shows up as image preview when added as attachment) ..everything else is great :)
so i had to upload the image and then link it ...
oh yea and .. this is installed yesterday and i havent browsed much.

the way u configure ur settings & security is completely different than mine lol
u havent broswed much?! look at those numbers!
for ur google 1 u just put googlesyndication. i guess that does the same thing, but i always see google ads with pagead2.googlesyndication.com never see any other combination of googlesyndication but it does the same thing i suppose
u've also added things i dont have o_o
ad1.
adultfinder
fling
i never see any of those, where'd u find those at? o_o
u also skipped 1 of my favorites :P http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shoc ... wflash.cab
Luigi, yeah a signature isn't really necessary but an avatar/icon is always nice to have. Enable?

to Luigi : i actually whined only cuz i couldnt post the pic as attachment .. and then avatar and sig popped in my mind too .. so i added em :)
to evan: go to torrent sites...theres plenty of ''porn'' stuff...like adult shit..
its pissing me off lol ... if i want porn i can get it from eMule ..or just google it ... or something ...y they stick it on torrent sites...lil kids visit those sites too you know lol. ..like btmon.com ..also all kind of serial/cdkey/crack sites r FULL of those things...
oh and about firewall...i dont need it cuz i have one in my router. program control is all i need in my pc to block those annoying programs from contacting outside world. mostly the update chekcers...which just START downloading and the screw up my crack and/or reboot ..etc.
