All the mail accounts have mechanism to recover them in case of password lost like an answer to a specific question or a secondary mail address

is it your own account .. or you need to hack into somebodys elses account instead ? ..if it is your account and you know in what style the password was ... like ''password'' or ''password1'' or ''passWord_1'' etc... then you can use some bruteforce tool and try to recover it. i havent tried to crack mail accounts, but ''THC hydra'' should work ..or Brutus.
i ask this question, because usually, like Luigi already mentioned, all e-mail accounts has some recovery method, but if you dont know that info, then its other story .... For example i keep all my passwords on a CD .. just in case.

i tested brutus on my forum, but it didnt work. im not sure if it works on hotmail .. its old tool after all.
i suggest you to make new hotmail account and test on it. if it will find it .. then you know it works.
it should be http ofcourse (check the URL bar, maybe its https) ...well theres other ways to log into hotmail too ofcourse (using something else than browser)
if its https then i doubt that brutus works. Hydra does have https support, but for windows there is only command line version. GUI version is only for linux (if im correct)
